 1. What is meant by universal adult franchises?

Ans:- The right to vote of all adult citizens without  any discrimination of caste,  creed, race and social and economic status is called universal adult franchises.

Ans:- The election commission is responsible for holding elections to the parliament and state legislature.

 It revises and updates the voters list.

It gives recognition to political parties.

it allocates symbol to various political parties and independent candidate who contest the election,

It prescribes model code of conduct for political parties and candidates so that the election are free and fair.

4. What is an election manifestos?

Ans :- The  programms and policies of political parties which deals with issues such as economic reforms , social justice, health, ,education and foreign policy is known as election manifestos.

Ans:- if the fruits of development reaches to the marginalized section of society is known as social justice.

And :- democracy means a political system in which people elect their representatives to run the government. According to Abraham Lincoln democracy is the government of the people by the people and for the people.

17. What do you understand by term Rule of law?

Ans :- Rule of law means all people are equal before the law. There is no distinction between citizen based on race , religion, caste, colour and birth. Equal opportunities are provided to all to grow.

18. What is secret ballot?

Ans :- The system of casting vote in secrecy so that no one known for whom a person has voted. It helps the voter  cast his vote without any fear or pressure.

19. What is  By election?

Ans :- when elections are held to replace a member of the Lok Sabha or that of state legislative assembly because the person representing a particular constituency has either died or resigned ,this  election is  called By election.

20. What do you mean by mid term poll?

Ans :- when elections are held due to the dissolution of the Lok Sabha or state legislative assembly before its term of 5 year is over, is called mid-term poll.

21. What is parliamentary form of government?

Ans :- In a parliamentary form of government the executive or the council of ministers is part and parcel of the legislature. They remain in power as long as the they enjoy the confidence of the legislature . i.e. parliament.  If non - confidence motion is passed they have to resign .

22. What do you mean by theocratic State?

Ans :- In Theocratic state, there is an official religion. People belonging to that religion have an advantage over other. Example - Pakistan ( all the civil laws are made in accordance with the Islamic teachings.)

23. What is dictatorship?

Ans :- Dictatorship is a form of government in which absolute power is vested in a single individual. Example - Adolf Hitler was the dictator of Germany and was the leader of the Nazi party.

24. What is socialism?

Ans:- Socialism means an economic system in which all means of production are owned and controlled by the state for the welfare of its people.

25. What do you mean by secularism?

Ans:- Secularism means that there should be no discrimination on the basis of religion in a country.

26. What is mid day meal scheme? Mention its objectives.

Ans:- it is a welfare program through which cooked lunch is provided in elementary governmental school. Tamil Nadu government was the first to introduce this scheme in the state in 2001. The main objective of this scheme is to give food to undernourished children but it has produced other positive result like decrease in drop out rate of the children and more enrollment of students.

27. What is constituency?

Ans:-  The electoral areas in  to which the country or a State is divided for the purpose of Lok Sabha or state legislative assembly elections is called constituency.

28. What is the meaning of Liberty in democracy?

Ans:- Liberty is an essential characteristics of democracy. In a democratic set up everybody is free to express his opinion, to form associations, to follow any religion and to criticize the government. Liberty enable everybody to strive for personal betterment.

Ans:- as soon as the notification is issued by the president or the governor , the election procedure starts.
